FD girls fall to Dowling

WEST DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge girls soccer team put forth a solid effort against perinnal power Dowling on Thursday.

The Dodgers (1-2 overall) lost 6-1 to the Maroons, but made gains on the way.

Fort Dodge took a 1-0 lead over the Maroons in the first half and trailed by only 2-1 at halftime.

“It was one of those games, where the score does not reflect the play on the field,” said Fort Dodge head coach Michael Lee. “We played wonderful and I thought we made a good Dowling team uncomfortable.

“I believe this was the first time we scored on Dowling and the first time that we led.”

Senior Justice Crooks picked up the lone goal for the Dodgers.

“We pushed them to the end,” Lee said. “We had scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes, but couldn’t cash in.”

The Dodgers are back in action next Friday when they host Des Moines Rossevelt. Action is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
