Tritons sweep Spartans

The 19th-ranked Iowa Central softball team earned three wins over Southwestern here Friday at Rogers Park.

Scores were 18-3 in five inning, 5-2 and 3-1.

Ashley Hahnbaum collected six hits — including a pair of home runs — and drove in 11 runs on the afternoon, while Kama Kaeo had four RBI for the Tritons (26-9 overall, 5-2 in ICCAC).

Cassie Tjebben, Lexi Binder and Jessa May all earned wins inside the circle. Tjebben had eight strikeouts, Binder recorded six and May had seven strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

“It was kind of disappointing that our bats didn’t stay hot after that first game,” ICCC head coach Rick Sandquist said. “But our pitchers were on. We needed them to be and they were, so that was a good sign.”

Alexis Egan had four of Iowa Central’s 10 steals in the three games, as the Tritons have now won five in a row.

Next action is Saturday at 1 p.m. when they meet Northeast Nebraska at Rogers Park.
