Triton baseball team moves to 3-1

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Iowa Central baseball team picked up their third win of the season here Friday, downing Southeast Nebraska, 7-6.

The Tritons (3-1 overall) also played a game vs. Lincoln Trail late last night and are scheduled to face Southwest Illinois and Parkland here Saturday.

Iowa Central exploded for six runs in the fifth to take the lead. Felix Martinez, Austin Halligan and Cole Scieszinski all drove in a pair, while Halligan and Scieszinski had two hits each.

“We made things interesting,” ICCC head coach Justin Meyer said. “We had a big inning with Halligan getting it going with a double. We walked too many guys, though, and had some self-inflicted wounds.

“Our bats are coming around a bit. We’re just trying to get them to relax and go out and play.”

Maxwell Steffens earned the win on the mound, recording two strikeouts, while Evan Johnson recorded the save and had three strikeouts.

The Tritons return to action next weekend in Lee’s Summit, Missouri against Longview.
