Lynx, Wildcats combine for 14 district qualifiers

HUMBOLDT — North Central Conference rivals Webster City and Humboldt finished first and second here Saturday.

Trey Nelson, Drake Doolittle, Carson Hartnett, Luke Rohmiller and Zane Williams all earned district spots with titles, while Caleb Olson and James Cherry moved on as runners-up.

Nelson and Doolittle each had a pair of pins in the semifinals and finals to dominate the 106- and 113-pound brackets, while Harnett did the same at 132.

Rohmiller picked up a major and a fall at 138 and Williams had two pins at 170.

The Wildcats pushed seven wrestlers through to districts, including sectional champions Cresten Craven, Elijah Torres, Jaden Kampen, Gus Arnold and Justin Jones. Zach Kollmorgen and Joey Busse.

Craven scored a pin over Southeast Valley’s Sam Hemmestad in the 120-pound finals in 5:19, while Torres picked up an 11-1 major decision over Gabriel Yingst of Woodward-Granger at 145.

Kampen downed Austin Scharlau, 4-3, in the 152-pound finals, while Arnold defeated Southeast Valley’s Kaelan Lundberg, 4-3, at 160.

Jones pinned Webster City’s Bryer McCoy at heavyweight in 5:37.

Southeast Valley’s Coledon Bethel (106 pounds), Sam Hemmestad (120), Trey Lawrence (132), Kaelan Lundberg (160), Kyler Fisher (170) and Clayton McFarland (285) all placed second to qualify for districts.

Webster City and Humboldt both qualified for regional duals on Tuesday.

Cowboys push nine through, Algona sends six

ALGONA — Defending state runners-up Clarion-Goldfield/Dows gave themselves a chance to compete at state duals once again after winning a sectional title here Saturday.

The Cowboys scored 242 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up Algona and third-place finisher Clear Lake. The Bulldogs topped the Lions by a single point to advance to regional duals Tuesday along with Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.

Connor Johnson, Tanner Abbas, Dakota Hennigar, Reymundo Vasquez, Mason Carpenter, Ben Powers and Spencer Trenary all earned titles, while Tyler Stein and Sam Wigans advanced to districts after placing second.

Johnson had a technical fall and a major to win at 126 pounds, while Abbas had two falls to claim the 138-pound title and improve to 37-4 on the year.

Hennigar won by fall in the semis and finals at 152, with Vasquez picked up a fall and a major at 160. Carpenter had two falls at 182, Powers had a fall and a decision at 195 and Trenary remained unbeaten at 11-0 by scoring a pin and advancing with an injury default at heavyweight.

Moving on for Algona were champion Dominick Etherington and runners-up Cameron Peterson, Cole Johnson, Carson Devine, Austin Chase and Josh Wegener.

Jacob Mielke won the 106-pound title for Pocahontas Area with a pair of falls, while Shea Ruffridge did the same at 120. Ruffridge is now 36-3 on the year.

Clayton Reis, Tyler Reis, Philip Minkler and Tim Elliott all advanced as runners-up.

Four Cougars advance

MANSON — Emmetsburg and Manson Northwest Webster placed second and third here Saturday, well behind Graettinger-Terril/R-A.

The Cougars scored individual titles from Daltin Roest and Koby Hanson, while Carson Collins, and John Schuttler finished second. All four advanced to districts.

Roest went 3-0 with three falls to win at 106 pounds, while Hanson had a pin and a decision win at 120.

The E-Hawks qualified sectional champions Spencer Griffin and Jon Lace, along with runners-up Levi Aldous, Tanner Lundgren, Mason Griffin and Jimmie Steffens for districts. They also advanced to regional duals on Tuesday.

Spencer Griffin, who is now 39-1 on the year, had a pin in 34 seconds and a 17-12 decision win in the finals over G-T/R-A’s Kolton Roth to win at 132. Roth is now 37-2 on the year.

Lace won the 160-pound title with a technical fall in the finals ad earning a pin in the semis.

Raiders qualify a pair

SERGEANT BLUFF — The East Sac County wrestling team qualified two for districts, as Garret Bruce won a sectional title and Dawson Mack placed second.

Bruce earned a fall in the finals over Cherokee’s Matt Stines to claim the 145-pound title. He is 33-3 on the year and also had a decision win in the semis.

Mack was the runner-up at 126 after falling to Sioux City Heelan’s Joe Vondrak in the finals. He had scored a win earlier in the tournament over Spencer’s Chris Gross, giving him the bid.
