Tritons advance to semis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The second-ranked Iowa Central wrestling team had little trouble advancing to the semifinals here Thursday at the NWCA National Duals.

The Tritons picked up victories over Colby, 54-0, and Northwest College, 38-3.

“Our guys came out and wrestled really hard,” said Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt. “We had people around our team saying our team is fun to watch.

“We have mixture of styles that wrestled (today).

“It sounds simple, but we just have to go out and wrestle and put guys in danger of giving up big points.”

Jeremiah Colon, Todd Small, Kris Lindemann, Brandon Murray, Dayton Racer, Brady Vogel, Antrez Clagon, Danny Bush, Kendrick Jones and Thomas Petersen all scored wins for the Tritons vs. No. 20 Colby. Lindemann, Vogel, Clagon, Bush and Petersen each had falls.

Curtis Cannon, Small, De’Andre Reed, Murray, Racer, Clagon, Bush, Jones and Petersen each had wins vs. ninth-ranked Northwest. Cannon, Murray and Clagon had falls.

They will face sixth-ranked Clackamas today in the semis at 11 a.m., while the top-half of the bracket features No. 1 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M vs. fifth-rated Ellsworth.

“They’re (Clackamas) pretty good,” Moffitt said. “I don’t know how they’re not ranked higher. They’re going for their fourth straight dual title. From what I’ve seen they look really good and we have to be on point.

“We have to go in and let it fly and see what happens. The key is going to be getting bonus points and giving them up. We have to capatilize and get the extra points.”
