The St. Edmond wrestling team can use Saturday’s home dual tournament as a perfect jumping off point to the rest of the season.

The Gaels entertain Southeast Valley, AGWSR, Clarke, Roland-Story and West Hancock, beginning here inside the SEHS gym at 10 a.m.

Each squad will face each other once.

Cole Allison, who is ranked ninth in Class 1A at 126 pounds, has posted a 14-4 record so far this season. The senior is a multi-time state placewinner and closing in on 100 career victories.

Connor Allison, Cole’s brother, returned to action earlier this week after recovering from an injury suffered during the football season. He went 3-2 on the mat in duals on Tuesday and Thursday.

Freshman Noah Carlson has racked up a record of 9-10, including three wins in four matches already this week. Ty Smith is 5-12, while newcomers Katie Julius (2-7) and Sam Brown (1-2) continue to gain valuable mat time.

Both Allisons and Smith are in weight classes that include a complete field.

Sophomore Kyler Fisher leads the Jaguars, as he enters 21-0 and is ranked fifth at 182 pounds in Class 2A. Clarke’s Nathan Bair, who is 14-1, is ranked seventh at 182, as well.

AGWSR features Caleb Meinders, who is ranked third at 220 pounds. West Hancock boasts Jordan Weiland (No. 6, 170 pounds), Hunter Hagen (No. 3, 195) and Colton Francis (No. 8, 220). All are in 1A with Allison.

Weiland, with a record of 12-4, is expected to compete at 182.

Meinders is 13-1 on the season, Hagen is 15-1 and Francis is 10-3.

St. Edmond has just two dual meets and a pair of tournaments left before sectionals. They travel to Clear Lake for a North Central Conference triangular with the Lions and Webster City on Thursday before taking a over a week off before the league meet in Algona on Jan. 21.

The final home date for the Gaels is Jan. 26 vs. Clear Lake, Lake Mills and Mason City Newman, while they conclude the regular season at the South Central Calhoun Duals on Jan. 28.

Sectionals are set for Feb. 4 and districts Feb. 11.
