Tritons hit the road

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – Kevin Twait is hoping that a week off has helped his ballclub regain their focus as they head to Coffeyville today.

The Tritons (0-7 overall) are coming off a 51-7 loss at home to Fort Scott.

Coffeyville (4-3) earned a 41-31 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

“They are really fast on defense,” Twait said. “They run really well and force a lot of turnovers. They forced six against Iowa Western.”

Coffeyville quarterback Key Coleman has thrown for 1,532 yards and 13 touchdowns.

On the ground, Marcelus Ware (323) and Antwan Barksdale (308) are their leading rushers. They have three and five touchdowns respectively.

Receiver Malik Stanley has caught 49 balls for 608 yards and four scores. Terry Wright has six touchdowns.

Iowa Central, who has prided itself over the year on running the ball, has only rushed for 233 yards on the season.

“We’re running the ball very poorly,” Twait said. “We want to see if we can establish that again.

“They have some explosive kids, so this will be a great challenge for us. We had a week off, so hopefully we’re rejuvenated and we can get going, we’re desperate for a win.”
