Tritons double up at time trials

MASON CITY – The Iowa Central men and women’s cross country teams opened the fall season by sweeping the Region XI Time Trials.

The Triton men had all seven of their runners place in the Top-10, led by Omer Almog’s runner-up finish. Karim Achengli was third, Belesti Akalu was fourth, former Fort Dodge Senior High standout Alex Jackson placed fifth and Ashenafi Hatte was sixth.

On the women’s side, Agnes Mansaray led the way by securing runner-up honors. Maddie Bach was third, Aaliyah Regg Wajid fourth, Abby Gawthorp sixth and Sierra Stucky seventh.

Almog finished in a time of 16:13.9, which was right behind winner Wal Khat of NIACC (16:13.7).

The women’s race was won by Iowa Western’s Shanieke Watson, with Mansaray finishing in 20:32.7.

Iowa Central returns to the course this weekend in Pella at the Dutch Invitational.
