Ten Dodgers honored

On the heels of a second straight state softball appearance, Fort Dodge received 10 selections on the all-CIC Northern Division teams.

Making the top squad for the Dodgers, who won the league for a fourth consecutive year, were sophomore Bre Tjebben (P), junior Meagan Hartman (P), junior Maggie Harvey (C), senior Madi Bennett (IF), freshman Daphne Alstott (UT) and sophomore Madie Knutson (IF). Landing on the second team for FDSH were juniors Sabrynn Ulrich (OF) and Mack Provin (UT).

In addition, freshman Tehya Miller and sophomore Kaden Pederson each garnered honorable mention status.

Tjebben, Hartman, Harvey, Bennett and Alstott were all unanimous picks, along with Ames’ Maddie Lynch and Savannah Perry and Mason City’s Hannah Faktor.

Tjebben went 17-9 in the circle with a 2.94 ERA in 154 2/3 innings of work. Offensively, she batted .302 with 38 hits, 21 RBI and a team-high 15 doubles.

“I thought Bre consistently got better and better,” said Fort Dodge head coach Andi Adams, whose squad finished 28-17 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the division this past season. “She never complained about her back injury. Bre carried the momentum from shutting down Waukee’s phenomenal hitters (in a 1-0 eight-inning Class 5A regional semifinal shutout against the defending state champions and fourth-ranked Warriors) right into the state tournament.”

Hartman was 11-8 in the circle with a 3.12 ERA over 130 1/3 innings. At the plate, she held a .313 average with 40 hits and 27 RBI.

“Meagan worked very hard,” Adams said. “She was also more consistent with the bat this year. Both of our pitchers (Tjebben and Hartman) were very deserving of the honors.”

Harvey, a catcher, batted .391 with 59 hits and team-bests in RBI (51), homers (12) and slugging percentage (.728).

“What can you say about Maggie?,” said Adams. “Her power is definitely what we needed. She’s got a beautiful swing and is a general behind the plate, too. Maggie adjusted to seeing so many Division I pitchers very well. She was really a team motivator.”

Bennett, who was the only senior on the Dodger roster, posted a .302 batting average with 35 hits and 23 RBI. The Simpson College recruit also made just two errors in 149 chances at second base for a .987 fielding percentage.

“Madi’s defense saved some games for us,” Adams said. “As the lone senior, she was just a great team leader. She did an excellent job of rallying our young girls.”

Alstott, a third baseman, paced Fort Dodge in hits (64) and runs scored (45), while setting a new single-season school record for stolen bases (47). She added 23 RBI.

“Daphne could do everything for us,” said Adams. “She constantly attacks (offensively), so it was a smart choice to put her in the leadoff spot.”

Knutson managed a .424 batting average with 56 hits, 41 runs, 41 stolen bases and 19 RBI. She led the Dodgers in both walks (20) and on-base percentage (.503).

“Madi improved tremendously from the beginning of the year,” Adams said. “She had a hip injury that she had to battle through. She also had to learn to attack the ball and made some incredible plays at shortstop.”

Ulrich, tallied 20 hits, 14 runs, 14 stolen bases and a team-high 11 sacrifices.

“Sabrynn obviously showed what she could do defensively,” said Adams. “She was thrown out in center field this year after making the switch from right. It turned out to be a great fit.”

Provin batted .352 with 45 hits, 30 RBI and four longballs.

“Mack was consistently our oppo(site-field) hitter,” Adams said. “It’s always tough to be a DP and not play defense, but she had a lot of big RBI for us. She was much stronger mentally this year.”

Miller produced 24 runs and 23 hits, while Pederson scored 23 times to go along with 13 stolen bases.
