Gael boys win opener on the links

GOWRIE – The St. Edmond boys golf team opened its 2016 season with a dual victory over Southeast Valley here Tuesday.

The Gaels posted a 161-169 victory.

Harrison Mayer (37) earned medalist honors for SEHS, while teammate Robert Flattery (38) was runner-up. Charlie Doyle (43), Andrew Gibb (43), Reid Johnson (44) and Jaxon Myers (46) rounded out the Gael lineup.

“Southeast Valley has a very strong team,” said St. Edmond head coach Dan Streit. “It was a good gauge for us right out of the chute. We scored pretty well against the wind. Our consistency paid off. Hopefully, this can be a stepping stone.”

Keegan Goodwin (39), Conner Conrad (40), Logan Boerner (44) and Josh Johnson (46) comprised the Jaguar scorecard.

In junior varsity action, the Gaels claimed a 188-207 triumph.

Tommy Lennon (45) and Conley Messerly (46) led the way for St. Edmond.
