Faiferlick takes over for Gaels

Kelsey Faiferlick will get her chance to come back home and coach the St. Edmond golf team that she was a part of when she gained her state glory.

Faiferlick, who is a 2011 graduate, qualifed for three state events. She finished 14th as a sophomore and climbed the ladder to place fourth and third in her final two campaigns.

After high school, Faiferlick went on to play golf for Park University, where she was a key member of the team.

Faiferlick finished with the team’s 11th best scoring average (84.4) in school history. She had a career scoring average of 87.8 which ranks fifth best all-time at Park.

“As this is my first year coaching, I am very excited to have such a great group of ladies,” Faiferlick said. “We have one returning letterwinner – Alli Condon, who is our only senior. New to the team are Jaci Taylor (junior), Riley Mayer and Grace Viaene (sophomores).

“This will be a building year for us because we four players graduate last year.”

Bailey Baker, Maggie Fitzgerald, Julia Fletcher and Mya Lacina were varsity regulars a year ago.

Now, the Gael graduate will take over a program that was coached by her father Justin Faiferlick, with four roster players.

“This is Alli’s second year on the team and the only senior, so I am expecting her to lead the others as a captain,” Faiferlick said. “Each of our practices involves a goal and everyone has worked hard so far this season to improve.

“With such a small team, it is important that each of the ladies is focused. Our main goal is to work on consistency this season.”
