Dodger girls fall at Waukee

WAUKEE – Unable to break through offensively, the Fort Dodge girls soccer team dropped a 9-0 decision to 10th-ranked (Class 3A) Waukee here Tuesday.

Trailing 5-0 at the break, the Dodgers (1-1 overall) held the Warriors in check for the first 20 minutes of the second half.

“I don’t think the score reflected the play,” said FDSH head coach Michael Lee. “I was very pleased with how hard we played right to the end. Waukee is really, really good. I think a lot of teams would’ve rolled over and allowed themselves to lose 10-0. We kind of tweaked things and really played them even for the first 20 minutes of the second half. We pressured them and had them on their heels, but they had a deeper bench. (Keeper) Liza Van Zyl kept us in the game.”

Fort Dodge hosts Des Moines North on Thursday and No. 13 (3A) Ankeny on Friday.
