3 wins, 8 homers for Triton softball team

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Iowa Central softball team went a perfect 3-0 here Friday, scoring 31 runs in a sweep of opponents at the Rochester Tournament.

The Tritons easily handled Viterbo (9-4), Lake County (13-3 in 5 innings), and Rochester Tech (9-5).

Iowa Central socked eight home runs on the day. Lexi Korte went deep to help her own cause against Viterbo; Korte was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Cali Koeneke drove in a pair.

Maddie Wagner, Makayla Burt, Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Cassie Tjebben and Abby Dobernecker all went deep in the rout of Lake County. Tjebben also earned the victory as the pitcher of record, surrendering six hits in the complete-game effort. Tjebben struck out eight.

St. Edmond graduate Amanda Lansman, Ashley Hahnbaum and Burt all socked longballs against Rochester. Lansman was the winning pitcher as well, with nine strikeouts and no earned runs allowed.

”We swung the bats well and ran the bases well,” ICCC head coach Rick Sandquist said. ”Cassie and Amanda did a nice job. We have good kids who play hard. There were a few bad innings that got to us defensively, but we’re off to a solid start.

”The girls have shown some grit and some fight. I like seeing that.”

The Tritons are in action next Saturday and Sunday in Cloud County, Kan.
