Class 5A

Fifth-place: WDM Valley 2, Johnston 1

West Des Moines Valley plated a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to best Johnston in the consolation final, 2-1.

Mackenzie Ward recorded 11 strikeouts and scattered five hits, while Karley Kopaska and Claire Stalzer each drove in a run.


Cedar Rapids Jefferson 8, WDM Dowling 0

A four-run first was more than enough for Cedar Rapids Jefferson, as they downed West Des Moines Dowling for seventh, 8-0.

Hannah Markham was 3-for-4 with three RBI, including two doubles. Lindsey Sulver and Kennedy Dighton each ahd two hits, while Dighton scored twice.

For the Maroons, Hallie Ketcham was 2-for-3.

Class 4A

Fifth-place: Carlisle 2,

Mount Pleasant 1 (8 inn.)

Carlisle scored a run in the top of the eighth to defeat Mount Pleasant, 2-1 and place eighth.

Meredith Hoffman and Natalie McCormick each drove in a run, while Molly Hoekstra scattered nine hits over eight innings with a strikeout. Hoffman hit a solo home run.

Bailey Johnson allowed just six hits for Mount Pleasant and had seven strikeouts. Chi Glaha had two hits and drove in a run, while Trinity Krabill also had two hits.


Fairfield 7, SB-Luton 5

Three runs in the seventh lifted Fairfield past Sergeant Bluff-Luton for seventh place honors, 7-5.

Kaylee Watson had home run for Fairfield, while Sara Trent went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Emma Christensen and Kinzey Foley each had two hits for SB-Luton.

Class 3A


West Marshall 3,

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 1

Brooke Snider recorded three hits, while Kallie Malloy had six strikeouts as West Marshall bested Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, 3-1, for seventh place honors.

Snider, Karisa Blocker and Kayla Cripps all drove in a run for West Marshall. Of Snider’s three hits, two were doubles.

Class 2A

Fifth-place: Central Springs 2, Logan-Magnolia 0

Central Springs pitched a 2-0 shutout over Logan-Magnolia to claim the consolation final.

Hannah Ausenhus threw a one-hitter, striking out three and walking three. The Panthers plated two runs in the third, as Anna Dietrich drove in a pair.

Lauren Klaahsen had two doubles for Central Springs.

Class 1A

Fifth-place: Akron-Westfield 6, Colfax-Mingo 3

Akron-Westfield rebounded from a quarterfinal round loss to claim the consolation final with a 6-3 victory over Colfax-Mingo.

Jessica Hansen had a double, drove in two runs and scored twice, while Brynn VanEldik and Danika Tindall each had two hits. Bailey Davis earned the win with four strikeouts.

For Colfax-Mingo, Ries Wilson had two hits.

Seventh-place: Belle Plaine 4, Montezuma 3

Belle Plaine capped off its state tournament with a 4-3 victory over Montezuma for seventh on Wednesday in eight innings.

Katie Cubbage recorded 12 strikeouts for Belle Plaine, while Shaylee Dodd, Ashton Bohlen and Katy Ward all had two hits. Dodd scored twice and had two doubles.

Cassidy Watts and Breck Goodman had two hits for Montezuma, which was makings its state debut.
