Ask Marilyn: Your Image in a Mirror Versus a Photo
Samantha Sakers of Centreville, Virginia, writes:
Marilyn: A reader stated that she's generally satisfied with the way her face looks in a mirror, but that she usually dislikes her face as it appears in photographs (August 19, 2012). I'm just the opposite: I like the way my face appears in photos, but not the way it looks in a mirror!
If the reader uses digital photography—or scans photos digitally—she might want to use a feature found in most digital-photo software, which allows one to flip photos so that they give a mirror-image view of the subjects. If she does this, then she'll be satisfied with her face in these photos.
Good idea, Samantha! But her photo collection will look really weird if she does this when anything more than her face is in the photo. Other people will be reversed, too, and so will everything in the background.
