The off-highway vehicle park south of Fort Dodge will hold a grand opening early next month, the Webster County Board of Supervisors heard Tuesday.
The supervisors also heard about developments at POET Biorefinery and with U.S. Highway 20, and approved window washing for the county's buildings.
Phase II of the Gypsum City Off-Highway Vehicle Park will open Sept. 12, said Supervisor Keith Dencklau.
"I believe if you have a chance to go out there, there will probably be people giving rides," Dencklau said. "It's really amazing what they've done out there."
Adding about 30 miles of trails to the existing 15, the expansion makes it the largest OHV park in the state. The park first opened in 2005.
Supervisor Mark Campbell will attend the grand opening of POET Biorefinery's Project Liberty plant in Emmetsburg.
"We will tour the plant, and talk to them about hopefully expanding their projects in Webster County," Campbell said.
Supervisor Bob Singer reported on a Department of Transportation meeting he attended in Cedar Rapids, where he advocated for more resources to be spent on finishing four-lane Highway 20.
Supervisor Merill Leffler said the windows in the county's four buildings were washed last year after several years of not being washed.
"My opinion is that the outsides need to be washed once a year," he said, "But I don't know that the insides need it that often."
The supervisors decided to have Cleaning Connection Inc., of Des Moines, wash all the windows inside and outside for $4,585.37. It would be about $1,130 cheaper to only wash the outsides.
Leffler was responsible for creating the long-range capital improvements plan that guides projects to be done on the various county buildings, and at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park.
The board also approved a native wine permit for Soldier Creek Winery, located northeast of Fort Dodge.
The first public hearing was held for a proposed zoning change which will allow Mike Halligan to build a house near Burnside.
No written or verbal comments were presented. The change is approved by the planning and zoning board, according to Zoning Administrator Sheilah Lizer. The land will be changed from A-1, "Agricultural Preservation District," to A-2, "Agriculture District."
The supervisors voted to waive the second hearing, and hold the final hearing Sept. 2.
