Clifton J. Harp, 85, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at his home.
In accordance with his wishes, donation has been made to Des Moines University. A service honoring Cliff's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Austin Hill officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Cliff is survived by his children, David Harp, Lehigh; Daniel (Becky) Harp, Ankeny; Sara Dallman, Moorland; and Toby (Tracy) Harp, Fort Dodge; 13 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren; and his siblings, Lucile Cochran and Paul Harp. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, a sister Dorothy Harp and an infant brother.
CLIFTON J. HARP
Clifton Jerome Harp, the son of Clarence and Cecil (Gentry) Harp, was born July 16, 1929, in Fort Dodge. He attended Fort Dodge schools and graduated in 1948. On August 29, 1948, Clifton was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Joan Totman in Fort Dodge. Cliff was employed with Smith Brothers and also served in the National Guard. Cliff worked for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric for 40 years as a serviceman, retiring in 1990. Cliff was a handyman and helped his eldest son David with his farming enterprise after his retirement.
Cliff was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was past president of Golden K Kiwanis and was a past member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his good friends Will Schlueter, Joe Sanders and Garret Weiland and treasured the pet dogs he had over the years.
