A Manson native working for the Target Corp. in Minnesota has been hired as the new community development director of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.
Jill Nelson is currently a Target store team leader and district succession planning and recruiting leader in New Ulm, Minn. She will start her new responsibilities on July 28.
Nelson will replace Todd Redenius, who resigned in May.
''I think she is a very strategic thinker who has stayed abreast of events going on in the region economically,'' Dennis Plautz, the chief executive officer of the alliance, said Tuesday.
''Her background is one of developing leadership and developing collaboration,'' he said.
Nelson said she ''could not be more thrilled to be moving back to the area.''
''The position is very much community-based and that's what I'm very passionate about,'' she added. ''I'm a firm believer in collaboration so my first priority is to get to know the members of the community.''
Cindy Burke, the president of the alliance's executive board, said the board members are very pleased that Nelson accepted the position.
''She brings experience that will advance our strategic initiatives and make a positive impact,'' she said.
Nelson is the daughter of Joe and Laura Horan, of Manson. She graduated from Manson Northwest Webster High School. She then earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies and political science from Luther College in Decorah.
After graduating from college, she went to work for Target Corp. in 2007 and served as executive team leader, recruiting executive and district customer service advisor. Nelson became a store team leader in October 2010. In May 2011, she took on the additional responsibilities of a district succession planning and recruiting leader.
Nelson and her husband, Derek, have a daughter and a son.
Plautz said Nelson will be the primary staff member working with the alliance's membership. She will also work directly with several of the alliance's committees and programs like Leadership Fort Dodge.
