To the editor:
On behalf of the It Gets Better FD & Beyond organization, we wish to express gratitude to those who participated in the second annual fishing tournament "It Gets Better at Kennedy" and making it a success.
We could not be more proud of the decision to name the largest fish trophy after Jim Buckley - an avid angler with an overwhelming passion for never giving up, as well as for life itself.
The IGBFD&B family had been humbled by the Buckley family and humbled by the strength honored by the presence of Jim's family.
Special thanks to the artists who volunteered their time to show off their talents: Valerie Walburn for her artwork on the trophies, George McGhee for his photography and especially Jeremy Hobmeier for his live blacksmith exhibition from Lizard Creek Forge.
Our winning charity was Community & Family Resources, which won a portion of the registration fees to thank them for the great work they are doing.
Finally, this event wouldn't be possible if not for some great supporters of this event: George and Diana Brehm from George's Diner, Aaron and Michele with The Iowa Outdoors Store, Mary Gormally from H&M Hair Care, Pepsi, The Bread Store, Fort 8, Nate Johnson from Deckers Sporting Goods, Fort Frenzy, Family Bowling Center, Iowa Central and Webster County Conservation.
The winner of the Jim Buckley's Largest Fish trophy went to Joe Buckley weighing in a large mouth bass at 2 pounds 6 ounces.
The spirit of his brother's love for the sport had been certainly felt.
Our family welcomes your family to become part of making things better for others. We hope to see you next year.
