Two people were killed Sunday evening in what investigators are calling a "freak accident."
The two victims, who were riding on a four-wheeler, were killed around 5 p.m. Sunday after a tree fell onto their vehicle.
According to a press release from the Iowa State Patrol, the ATV was being operated by Jordan Michal Ulicki, age 21, of Fort Dodge. His passenger was Sadie Rae Foreman, age 20, also of Fort Dodge. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Webster County Medical Examiner Dr. Dan Cole.
Investigators and friends and family of the victims stand at the scene of a double-fatality four-wheeler accident in Fort Dodge Sunday. Trooper Paul Gardner, of the Iowa State Patrol, said a tree had fallen on top of the two victims as they were heading north towards Fort Dodge on South River Road. The names of the victims were not available Sunday pending notification of family.
Trooper Paul Gardner, of the Iowa State Patrol, said the two were riding a four-wheeler northbound on South River Road.
"They were coming towards Fort Dodge and the tree just came down, apparently right on top of them," Gardner said. "It was a freak accident."
Both the four-wheeler driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident closed off part of South River Road as investigators looked over the scene. A large tree branch spanned the width of the road.
Gardner said that was the branch that had fallen on the two victims.
The bodies were removed from the scene around 7 p.m., after Cole had conducted his investigation.
The Fort Dodge Fire Department, Trinity Regional Medical Center, Otho Fire Department and Webster County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene.
