Due to a flood of recent rainouts, the St. Edmond softball team will be much busier than usual this week.
Following a rare turn of events, the sixth-ranked (Class 2A) Gaels (22-4 overall, 11-0 NCC) will hit the road to face three North Central Conference opponents at three different sites throughout the day on Tuesday.
League-leading St. Edmond is scheduled to visit Iowa Falls-Alden (18-5, 11-3), Clarion-Goldfield (0-15, 0-12) and Humboldt (17-8, 9-5). Start times are set for 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
"It's not ideal obviously, but it was basically our only shot to get things in," St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt said. "We were originally going to play at noon in Iowa Falls, but I was told they couldn't come up with umpires. Clarion already had umpires, so we scheduled them for noon.
"Iowa Falls then came back and said they found umpires. We moved things around after that to make sure everything works."
Saturday's scheduled game at Bishop Garrigan (13-11, 9-5) was also postponed due to inclement weather conditions. No makeup date has been announced.
"I'm kind of curious to see what will happen now with the Garrigan game," said Hunt. "We have to find a way to get that one in, too.
"Maybe we can play two on Monday. We'd prefer not to have any games the week of tournaments."
The Gaels are slated to host Clear Lake (3-19, 2-11) Monday and Webster City (14-13, 10-3) Wednesday, while wrapping up their regular season at Hampton-Dumont (9-9, 5-8) on Thursday.
St. Edmond will host the winner of either South Central Calhoun (3-14) or Panorama (5-13) in a 2A, Region 7 quarterfinal to begin postseason action on July 9.
