MARION - The third-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball squad won both of its games at the Marion Linn-Mar Invitational here Saturday.
The Dodgers (21-7 overall) routed Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 10-0, before taking care of sixth-ranked (3A) Center Point-Urbana, 5-2.
''We've talked a lot lately about having different roles and embracing them,'' FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. ''It's not a matter of if, but when we need every single player on our roster, top to bottom.
"I thought we got key contributions from a lot of different players (yesterday). And like most teams, we're so much better when that happens.''
Senior Lexi Astor went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate against Kennedy (18-11), scoring three times and stealing a pair of bases. Junior Mallory Kilian was 2-for-4 with three runs driven in, and junior Kinna Teske added a pair of hits.
Kilian did the rest in the pitcher's circle, surrendering just a single hit in six innings of work as the Dodgers prevailed via the mercy rule. She walked three and struck out three.

''Our defense was solid behind our pitchers (the Dodgers didn't commit an error in either game),'' Adams said. ''We earned two victories over quality opponents that we don't normally get to see, which always helps us in the long run.''
Fort Dodge returns to action here Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against an opponent to be determined.
