St. Edmond Hank Crimmins absorbed Eagle Grove's best shot - literally - during the Gaels' 5-2 win at Rogers Park here Monday night.
Crimmins went the distance on the mound as the Gaels improved to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the North Central Conference, but it was surprising that was there after what happened in the first inning.
With two outs in the top of the first, Crimmins was hit in the chest by a shot from Eagle Grove's Austin Griffin. After lying near the mound for a few minutes, Crimmins got up, took a few practices tosses and stayed in the game.

He finished with 10 strikeouts as he moved his own record to 5-2 for the season.
"When Hank got hit, that was pretty scary," said Gael coach Joe Shanks. "I wasn't expecting him to finish. He's got that warrior mentality, though."
Crimmins got out of several jams early in the game and got some breathing room with a three-run sixth inning by the Gaels. He left two runners on in the first and second and got an inning double-play in the third before striking out the side in the fourth inning.

The Gaels had a chance to blow things open, but they left 11 runners on base.
"Eagle Grove always plays us tough," said Shanks. "We have to earn every win against them. We just need to start building some momentum at the end of the year and find that right peak."
Eagle Grove (4-11, 2-7) lost for the ninth straight time since a 5-4 win over the Gaels back on June 2.
The Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth. Dylan Thielen doubled and moved to third on a single by Jake Wilde. He scored when the Gaels had to throw down to first on a dropped third strike.
St. Edmond got three in the sixth inning. Colin Flattery singled with one out and scored on a double by Robert Flattery. An error let Robert Flattery score and courtesy runner Landon Hughett scored on a ground out.
The Eagles got another run in the seventh as Cole Beecher doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Thielen.
Eagle Grove put two runners on with two outs, but Crimmins got a ground ball to end the game.
