St. Edmond head softball coach Paul Hunt is bullish on his new leadoff hitter.
Senior Cassie Sells went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of steals from the top of the lineup, helping the seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Gaels earn their sixth straight victory over Eagle Grove at Rogers Park Monday night, 11-1 in six innings.
Sells, who was moved to that spot in the order over the weekend, set the table for the rest of the St. Edmond (19-4 overall, 10-0 in North Central Conference) order, which posted two run scoring innings.

"Cassie has been a kid who has always hit the ball well for us the last three years, she just wasn't finding the openings," Hunt said. "Now, she's spraying the ball to all parts of the field and is really doing a great job at the leadoff spot."
Jaci Stumpf was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Amanda Lansman helped her own cause with a pair of RBI. Lansman also recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits from inside the circle.
Brigid Hanley, Jessica Kuebler, Lily Peterson and Megan Flattery each collected two hits, while Kuebler, Peterson and Flattery scored twice each.
