BANCROFT - The 10th-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond baseball team dropped a 10-9 decision to North Union in 10 innings on Tuesday.
Hank Crimmins went 3-for-4 offensively with two RBI for the Gaels (9-7 overall). Jason Setterdahl and Reid Johnson each chipped in a pair of hits. Colin Flattery also drove in two and scored twice, while Robert Flattery crossed the dish twice
St. Edmond finished with 11 hits compared to 12 for the Warriors, who rallied back from an 8-6 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
"We have to hit the ball on the ground for us to be successful, and that's what we did when we had our big innings," said SEHS head coach Joe Shanks. "We put ourselves in a position to win twice, but we couldn't get the job done."
For North Union (6-8), Colin Runksmeier was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Alex Krantz was also a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Cody Runksmeier added two hits, a RBI and a run.
Posting the win in relief was Corey Vaske, who scattered seven hits and three earned runs over five innings. Vaske walked one and fanned two.
