WEST DES MOINES - The seventh-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond baseball team went 0-2 at the Dowling Invitational on Saturday.
The Gaels (8-6 overall) fell to No. 9 (2A) Iowa City Regina and seventh-ranked (1A) Don Bosco by scores of 13-1 and 4-1, respectively.
Hank Crimmins went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored in Game 1 for St. Edmond, which managed its lone score in the fourth.
In the second contest, leadoff batter Colin Flattery was 3-for-4. Robert Flattery, Crimmins and Ryan Szalat all added singles. Setterdahl also drove in the only Gael run in the third.
"This has been kind of a tough stretch for us," said SEHS head coach Joe Shanks. "We've been playing a lot of baseball lately, and we need a couple of days off and some practice time to regroup. Some of our inexperience is coming out right now. There were a lot of rated teams (at the Dowling Invitational). I think it's fun to watch good hitters and people throw strikes, but you have to be ready to play."
Next action for St. Edmond is Monday at Bishop Garrigan.
