CARROLL - The St. Edmond softball team claimed the CYO Tournament title here Saturday.
The 13th-ranked (Class 2A) Gaels (10-1 overall) posted victories over Carroll Kuemper (10-3), No. 8 (1A) Remsen St. Mary's (9-3) and Sioux City Heelan (3-0).
"We were really thrilled to see the bats come alive against some quality pitching throughout the whole day," said SEHS head coach Paul Hunt. "It was nice to see the ball being driven from gap to gap. Our team is starting to hit their stride a little bit."
Jaci Stumpf went 3-for-4 offensively with a triple in the opener, while Amanda Lansman helped her own cause with a single, a triple and two RBI. Anna Yung also reached base four different times.
Against the Hawks, Maggie Harvey was a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and a single. Jessica Kuebler and Lily Peterson contributed two hits apiece, while Miranda Dencklau singled in her first varsity at-bat. SEHS was able to overcome five errors.
In the championship game, Harvey (home run), Brigid Hanley (triple) and Yung (double) powered St. Edmond's attack. Twelve of the 30 Gael hits on the day went for extra bases.
