AMES - Webster City and Humboldt both finished in the Top-6 at the Class 3A boys state golf tournament here Saturday.
The Lynx were third with a two-day total of 636 at the Ames Golf and Country Club. The Wildcats placed sixth at 659.
West Delaware (622) was the team champion.
Junior Logan Yates (79-78-157, 11th overall) paced Webster City. Sophomore twins Alec (77-83-160) and Avery (81-79-160) Fuhs followed with matching 36-hole scores.
Freshman Drew Fielder (80-81-161) was right behind. Junior John Ferrell (84-81-165) and sophomore Sean Vogelbacher (90-89-179) rounded out the Lynx scorecard.
Humboldt junior Jaxon Heinz (77-82-159, tied for 13th) was the low individual for his squad. Juniors Brenden Schnell (90-79-169) and Casey Kayser (87-82-169) were next in line for the Wildcats.
Junior Christian Birdsell (80-90-170), junior Austen Gargano (85-89-174) and sophomore Andy Nelson (93-87-180) were the other Wildcat participants.
Alex Moorman of Centerville, a junior, was the champion with a two-day total of 70-73-143.
Creston-OM (634) was two strokes clear of the Lynx for second place. Clear Lake, the third program from the North Central Conference participating in the 3A field, placed fourth (641).
In addition, league members Bishop Garrigan (1A champion) and St. Edmond (2A runner-up) qualified for state this season, and of the 30 total varsity players on the five NCC schools that advanced, only three were seniors.
