LIVERMORE - The St. Edmond boys golf team secured the best finish in program history here Saturday, placing second at the Class 2A state tournament.
The Gaels finished with a two-day total of 638, landing only behind state champion South Hamilton. The Hawks, led by individual medalist Trevor Ullestad, carded a 621.
Senior Eddie Doyle was in the Top-5 for a second consecutive year at Spring Valley, wrapping up a fifth-place effort with rounds of 75 and 79. Sophomore Robert Flattery was next in line (10th, 80-76-156).

''We're just so proud of the kids,'' SEHS head coach Dan Streit said. ''To take a runner-up trophy home from this experience and have the top finish in the history of the program is just an outstanding accomplishment.
''We thought we had a chance to finish in the top two or three, but it doesn't just happen on paper. You have to put in the work and perform up to your potential, and our guys did that.''
Freshman Charlie Doyle (82-83-165), junior Michael Faiferlick (86-79-165), sophomore Harrison Mayer (84-90-174) and senior Cal Coleman (90-89-179) rounded out the Gael scorecard.

St. Edmond was sixth here a year ago, but the Gaels were 53 strokes better this time around. Doyle shaved three shots off of the 36-hole total from his junior season, when he placed fourth.
''Eddie, Robert and Michael all broke 80 (Saturday), which is great to see,'' Streit said. ''We improved three strokes (from 321 to 317) on day two and moved up a spot (in the team standings).
''South Hamilton is obviously a deserving champion. They definitely earned it.''
East Sac County's Justin Kraft was second only to Ullestad (70-74-144) individually. Kraft - like Ullestad, a senior - had rounds of 76 and 73.
The Raiders were fifth as a team (328-334-662).
South Hamilton senior Jordan Bowers edged Doyle by a single shot for fourth (76-77-153).
