LIVERMORE - St. Edmond currently stands in third place after a stop-and-go Day 1 of the Class 2A state golf tournament at Spring Valley Golf Course.
The players made it through the first 17 holes of the opening round before rain hit near the end of the competition. Players were forced to wait over an hour to complete their respective rounds; many had just one hole left.
The Gaels carded a 321, two strokes behind second-place Mount Vernon (319). South Hamilton was the overwhelming leader at 309. East Sac County (324) is in fourth place.

Eddie Doyle of St. Edmond gets ready to connect on a shot at Spring Valley in Livermore during the opening round of the Class 2A boys state golf tournament.
"We played pretty well overall,'' said St. Edmond head coach Dan Streit. "We were hoping we could of shoot a little better. We had long rain delay near the end and that slowed everyone down.
"The course was in great shape. We're right there in thick of things."
St. Edmond senior Eddie Doyle is tied for second place individually after shooting a 75. South Hamilton's Trevor Ullestad leads the field after a blistering two-under par 70, which was capped off by a chip-in for birdie on his last hole.
"Eddie is in good shape, Streit said. "He just missed a couple of putts at the end.
"He's obviously going to try to shoot lower (Saturday) and be more patient."
Robert Flattery (80), Charlie Doyle (82) and Harrison Mayer (84) rounded out the Gaels scoring. Michael Faiferlick (86) and Cal Coleman (90) were also in action.
For the Raiders, Justin Craft had the third best score of the day, shooting a 76. Zach Mason (80), Austin Brown (84) and Dylan Scheffler (84) rounded out the East Sac County's scoring.
The Emmetsburg duo of Mike Pugh and Mike Myers both fired rounds of 80.
Action will resume today at 8 a.m. at Spring Valley.
