Auditions will be held at 7:30 to 9 p.m. on May 24 and 25 at First Baptist Church, 28 N. 10th St., for parts in two youth productions planned by the Take 2 Summer Youth Theater.
Roles will be available for children in grades 5 through 8 in Disney's "Peter Pan Jr." while students in high school and college will be up for roles available in "A Year with Frog & Toad."
Directed by Mary Jo Laupp, "A Year with Frog & Toad" will be performed July 17-19. The first children's musical to hit Broadway, the play and score were written by brothers Robert and Willie Reale who based it on the classic Frog and Toad children's stories written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. The musical follows the woodland adventures of two amphibious friends, a worrywart toad and a perky frog. The songlist includes titles such as "I'm Coming Out of My Shell," "Toad to the Rescue" and "The Letter."
Directed by Esther Laupp, "Peter Pan Jr." will be performed July 31-Aug. 2. A spin of Walt Disney's animated classic about a boy who never grows up, this children's musical follows the adventures of Wendy and her brothers as they follow Peter Pan and with his sidekick, Tinkerbell, into Never Land. The musical score includes songs such as "You Can Fly, You Can Fly, You Can Fly" and "It's a Pirates Life for Me."
Take 2 Summer Youth Theater developed from an idea presented in 2010 by the Rev. Jim Laupp of First Baptist Church. He wanted to do something that was not a typical church program but that would still have a positive impact on the community. Two shows were produced in that first year, generating enthusiasm among the youth and inspiring the volunteers to continue the program the next year. Take 2 is now in its fourth season.
