ANKENY - Fort Dodge senior Tiana Mericle made sure she would finish on the big stage in her final season.
The Dodger sprinter won the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.60 and finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.44) to advance to the state meet.
The top two from each event automaticaly qualify for state with the next 12 fastest times or distances in the state.
She also ran the third leg of the Dodgers second place sprint medley (1:54.60). Running for the Dodgers were freshmen Sharia Smith, Car'Maiya Mosley and senior Lexi Astor.
"This is going to be very special for Tiana,'' said Fort Dodge head coach Todd Constable. "I'm excited for here."
If the 4x100 gets in, she'll be able to run in ever event you
"Lexi is in the same boat as Tiana,'' Constable said. "Being a senior and being able to run at state your senior year is great.''
The same quartet finished third in the 4x100 in a time of 51.79 and has a shot of qualifying.
Smith (13.44) was third in the 100 and Mosley was third in the shot put (34-feet, 3 inches). Astor was fourth in the long jump (14-11.5).
"Car'Maiya and Sharia both ran at Drake, but this will be a different kind of event,'' Constable said. "This is the ultimate goal at the start of the year."
