CARROLL - The St. Edmond boys golf team settled for runner-up honors at the Carroll Kuemper Invitational on Saturday.
The second-ranked (Class 2A) Gaels shot a 318. Atlantic (314) was the winner. Webster City (318) checked in third, while Prairie Valley (338) was ninth.
Counters for SEHS were Eddie Doyle (72), Robert Flattery (80), Michael Faiferlick (81) and Charlie Doyle (85). Doyle placed third individually.
"We went down to the tournament expecting to win, but we knew it would be a tough competition," said St. Edmond head coach Dan Streit. "There were eight 3A schools and a couple 2As there. It was a tougher course, but I'm real happy with the boys for coming in second place. (Saturday) was the first time this season we didn't win a meet."
Alec Fuhs (74), Avery Fuhs (76), Drew Fielder (81) and John Ferrell (87) filled out the Lynx scorecard.
Conner Conrad (83), Logan Boerner (83), Ethan Wiederin (86) and Spencer Johnson (86) all competed for the Warriors.
Harlan's Ross Martens (70) finished as meet medalist. Atlantic's Evan Schuler (71) turned in a runner-up effort.
Next outing for the Gaels is Monday at the North Central Conference meet in Webster City. Start time is set for 10 a.m.
