Opportunity Village will hold its 45th annual Benefit Walk May 4 at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park north of Fort Dodge.
Walkers can choose routes of 10, 3 or 1 mile then solicit donations to the Village as sponsorships in their name. The funds raised will be turned in the day of the event. All proceeds will go to benefit individuals with disabilities who rely on Opportunity Village for support.
Benefit Walk sponsor envelopes and registration packets are available at the Village General Store, 12 N. 25th St., or Northwoods Living at Pine House, 1470 21st Ave N. People can form teams, walk with co-workers, or do the event as individuals. People may sponsor walkers or teams online at www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage.
Walk options include a 10 mile route that begins at 1 p.m. at the Model Backyard in Kennedy Park, goes on the recreational trail to Fort Dodge then back to the park. The three mile route starts at 2:30 p.m. in the Model Backyard and goes 1.5 miles out on the recreation trail and back. The one mile route also starts at 2:30 p.m. and goes out along the recreational trail, turning around just before the trail crosses County Road P56, and returning to the Model Backyard area.
When walkers finish their selected route, they will gather at Heun Shelter in Kennedy Park for a picnic, music, and prizes.
