To the editor:
The Moose Lodge No. 806 located at 424 First Ave. S. will be hosting a benefit for Laurie Nelson on Friday and Saturday. A dart tournament and bake sale will be held on Friday evening. Sign up for the dart tournament will start at 5 p.m. with the dart tournament to begin at 7 p.m. sharp. (Loose meat sandwich) and potato salad will be available along with a bake sale.
Laurie and Chris "Gandhi" Nelson have been longtime dart players and I encourage all present and former dart players to join us for a time of fun and fellowship.
On Saturday, there will be a bake sale starting at 4 p.m. along with a spaghetti supper. The supper will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost will be $7 for adults and $4 for children 6 and under. There will be an auction hosted by Keith and Linda Dencklau starting approximately at 7:30 p.m. After the auction the Beaver Creek trio will be entertaining us with their old-time rock and roll. I would like to thank the Fort Dodge and surrounding merchants, Barilla from Ames, and everyone donating their time toward this event.
Laurie Nelson was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2012 and shortly thereafter underwent a mastectomy. In July 2013, she went in for her yearly checkup and was diagnosed once again with cancer in the other breast. She then had another mastectomy followed by a round of chemo. At this time, Nelson is on the road to recovery. Proceeds from this benefit will go toward all expenses and medical bills incurred.
Thank you for your support of this cause.
