Organizers of an annual fundraiser for a local domestic violence shelter are looking forward to the early April event and the new location it will be held at.
The 19th Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center's cake auction, which will be held April 12, is going to be at the Iowa Central Community College East Campus, 2031 Quail Ave.
In previous years, the auction was held at the Webster County Fairgrounds.

Framed by a colorful cake, volunteers Taylor Pingel, left, and Brianna Barkema hold onto a chair that was part of the live auction at the 18th annual Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center Cake Auction on the Webster County Fairgrounds in 2013.
Among the items up for bid during the 19th D/SAOC Cake Auction will be this coffee lover’s basket which includes a Keurig single cup coffee maker, an assortment of coffee, flavor syrups, coffee cups, a travel mug and themed home decor signs.
D/SAOC Program Development Director Brenda McBride said the new location will allow new opportunities for the auction.
"It will be a larger facility, so we can spread things out," she said. "We've also worked with Iowa Central with past cake auctions, and this seemed like a good change for both of us."
The new location is the biggest change to the auction, which McBride said is very important to D/SAOC.
If you go:
What: 19th Annual D/SAOC Cake Auction
When: April 12
Doors open at 5 p.m., live auction begins at 6 p.m.
Where: Iowa Central Community College, East Campus
Cost: Admission is free. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be offered.
"It is our largest fundraising event," McBride said. "It's very essential for us to provide the services we do to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault."
There will be both a live auction and a silent auction, with the live auction beginning at 6 p.m. Each auction item also comes with a cake.
"There will be an array of all kinds of baskets and cakes for people to look at and bid on and hopefully take home," McBride said.
Both the auction items and the cakes are donated.
"They come from generous donations, partnering agencies, the general public and friends of D/SAOC," she said. "All the cakes come from volunteers as well, and each item is partnered with a cake."
There are a wide variety of items available for bidding.
"We're having opportunities for getaways, including one in Branson (Missouri) and one in Arizona," McBride said. "We have a Des Moines weekend getaway with tickets to "Phantom of the Opera," and a getaway to Prairie du Chien in Wisconsin."
Other items for auction include benches, wine baskets, items for children and home improvement baskets.
McBride said photos of all the items will be uploaded to D/SAOC's Facebook page.
All the money raised helps D/SAOC.
"It goes into our general operating budget to help the victims of domestic and sexual assault," McBride said.
She added organizers are hoping for large attendance.
"We would like to make sure everybody knows they're all welcome to attend," she said. "We want to invite the public to come and support the cause."
