Iowa Central salvaged a doubleheader with an impressive relief appearance from Fort Dodge graduate Luke Vandermaten in their home opener.
The Tritons (12-7 overall) won the nightcap 9-4 after losing the opener to DMACC 13-3 in their ICCAC conference and home opener at Ed Barbour Field.
Vandermaten, who has eight saves on the season, relieved Hoe Hawks in the fourth inning and pitched 3 innings to earn his first victory of the season.
Vandermaten allowed only one hit and one base runner in the contest.
"Luke looked really good,'' said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. "We wanted our best pitcher on the mound and Luke was sharp.''
The Tritons won the contest behind 12 hits. Tanner Buenting and Nate Steger had three hits each. Steger had two doubles and drove in four runs. Buenting had a double and an RBI.

"It was a great bounce back win,'' Pederson said. "We didn't play good (in the opener) we walked some guys and made some mistakes. The first game got out of hand, but we handled it and made a statement in the second game.
"Buenting and Steger were excellent. They drove in runs and that was huge.''
In the opener, Iowa Central only had five hits and gave up 12 hits. Buenting had two hits and drove in a run. Damian Rutherford and Kinning also drove in runs.
The Tritons are back in action at home on Sunday when they host DMACC at noon in a doubleheader.
"It's nice to play at home,'' Pederson said. "I have to give credit to my assistant coaches for getting the field ready. They spent a lot of time on having this field ready to go.
"This is the best field in our league.''
