Blanchet — 90 years old

William Blanchet, formerly of Fort Dodge, will celebrate his 90th birthday with his open house from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Copper Kettle Room at the Iowa Veterans Home, 1301 Summit St., Marshalltown.
His family includes Elizabeth Howe, Las Vegas, Nev.; Thomas Blanchet, Fort Dodge; Mary and Eddie Davis, Amarillo, Texas; Jan and Larry Welter, Manson; and Cathy and Lonnie Proveaux, Sheboygan, Wis. He has seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. His wife Marcella, daughter Rose and son Richard are deceased.
Blanchet was born March 9, 1924, in Gilmore City. He married Marcella McLoughlin on Nov. 16, 1942. After serving in World War II, they settled in Dayton where he owned Blanchet Chevrolet. After selling the business, he worked for Iowa Beef from its opening until it closed in 1986 when he retired.
