Truck fire in building is extinguished

GOWRIE - A semi tractor caught fire in a machine shed on a farm south of Gowrie Thursday evening.

The truck was destroyed, but the building at 3791 Indiana Ave. sustained only minor damage, according to Gowrie Fire Chief Greg Benson.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was reported at about 6:15 p.m.

Benson said the truck was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. After the fire was under control, a farmer used a tractor to pull it out of the building.

The snowstorm slowed the firefighters' response, according to Benson.

''It was real slow going out there, and while we were out there the wind came up so it was even worse coming back,'' he said. ''It's treacherous to haul water to rural fires in those conditions.''

He identified the property owner as Don Rasmussen.

Gowrie and Harcourt firefighters were on the scene until about 7:30 p.m.
