ROSEMONT, Minn. - The Iowa Central softball team got an early start to the season and rolled to two easy victories on Thursday.
The Tritons (2-0 overall) beat Mount Mercy JV 10-0 and Southeast Nebraska 24-1 in the opening day of the Iowa Central Indoor Classic in the Irish Dome.
"We did what we needed to do,'' said Iowa Central head coach Josh Sandin. "We got the first-game jitters out of the way and took a good approach.
"We've had the opening day circled on the calendar since the end of last season.''
In the opener, Paige Prokop got the victory, striking out five and walking only two.
Katie Newburry was 3-for-4 and Emilee Dorpinghaus was 2-for-4. Sarah McCoy and Cassey-May Huff had two hits each.

In the second contest, the Tritons pounded out 18 hits.
Allie Ingalls earned the win, with eight strikeouts. Ingalls was also 3-for-4 at the plate. Nicole Dobernecker had a grand slam and four hits for the Tritons.
Sammie Hildreth and Taylor Barnett had two hits each.
The Tritons are back in action today at 8 a.m. against William Penn.
