Fresh off its 15th bowl appearance in the past 17 years, the Iowa Central football program recently announced the signings of 32 players to National Letters of Intent.
In addition, another 41 athletes have committed to join the team as walk-ons.
This past season, the Tritons finished 6-5 overall, including a 23-20 overtime victory over then-No. 7 (NJCAA) Rochester (Minn.) in the Graphic Edge Bowl.
"I think it is one of the more talented classes that we have signed in my 19 seasons of recruiting (at ICCC)," said Iowa Central head coach Kevin Twait, who owns a 132-58 mark at the helm. "We have some dynamic athletes coupled with some tough, rugged linemen that should make for an excellent group. Many of our (walk-ons) are outstanding players who will find their way into the two-deep roster quickly."
Linemen Caelan Burbank (St. Edmond) and Carlos Rocha (Fort Dodge) are among the group of commitments for the Tritons. Burbank posted 88 tackles and six sacks last fall for the Class 1A state runner-up Gaels en route to earning first team all-district honors. Rocha received honorable mention status on the 4A-2 all-division squad after helping pave the way for sophomore Sam Cook's single-season school record tying mark of 1,608 rushing yards.
Ronald Carter (Sioux City East) and Clayton Plowman (Adair-Casey) are two of the more notable names signing with Iowa Central. Carter delivered 1,205 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground as a senior for the Black Raiders, who reached the second round of the 4A playoffs. Plowman was named to the all-state top squad in 8-man for the state semifinalist Bombers. Plowman ranks first on Iowa's all-time career rushing list with 7,382 yards and 132 scores.
