LAKE?VIEW - A man who had previously threatened to shoot law enforcement officers surrendered to deputies Monday night after an hourlong standoff in Sac County.
Law enforcement officers were attempting to serve a warrant on James V. Fertig, 73, of rural Lake View when the standoff happened, according to Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure.
On Saturday, Fertig allegedly called the Sac County 911 Center at 5:19 p.m. and threatened to shoot law enforcement officers who came on his property or drove past his house slowly.
McClure said an arrest warrant for making terroristic threats was issued for Fertig, as well as a search warrant for firearms.
The Sac County sheriff's office and the Buena Vista County sheriff's office Special Emergency Response Team went to Fertig's home at 3129 340th St. Monday night.
According to McClure, when members of SERT tried to serve the warrants, Fertig refused to come out. Members of the team spoke with Fertig on the phone "on several occasions" before he surrendered without incident.
Fertig was taken to the Sac County Jail and held without bond pending his initial appearance.
In addition to the terroristic threats warrant, investigators also charged Fertig with being a felon in possession of firearms after four different guns and ammunition were found in his home.
McClure said in addition to SERT, the Sac County sheriff's office was assisted by Sac County Ambulance and the Lake View Fire Department.
