Hansen gets 12 years in meth case

ALGONA - An Algona man who pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine has been sentenced to a dozen years in prison.

Ryan Hansen, 32, of Algona, received the 12-year prison sentence Monday.

On Sept. 6, 2013, Hansen admitted that between September 2012 and March 2013, he was involved in a conspiracy that distributed at least 500 grams of meth. In court, Hansen admitted to getting meth from Minnesota and distributing it in Iowa.

During a traffic stop on March 16, 2013, law enforcement seized several bags of meth from Hansen's vehicle, which came to 14.76 grams. Hansen admitted he sold some of the meth in the Mason City area before his stop.

In addition to his sentence, Hansen will also have to serve 10 years of supervised release after his term is completed.

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's office and investigated by the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
