Funeral Services for Evelyn L. Nelson 85 of Coalville, will be Friday, January 7, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Beryl Vinchattle officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home and continue on Friday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Otho Cemetery. She died February 1, 2014 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Evelyn is survived by her children; Linda (Phil) Pingel of Fort Dodge, Mary (Max) Carlson of Gowrie, and Gena Nelson of Austin, Texas, three granddaughters; Andrea (Ryan) Poppinga, Mandy (Joe) Ford, Melonie (Sergio) Ordonez, one grandson; Jeff (Becky) Pingel, ten great grandchildren; Grant, Gunnar, Madison, Payne, Kandice, Brooke, Montana, Ruby, Eve and Max, two great great grandchildren and one brother Oliver Hammer of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Norma, brother Gene, and husband Clyde on August 27, 1999.
Evelyn Lorraine Hammer was born in Johnston Clay Works on December 20, 1928 to Claude and Gladys (Hoff) Hammer. She attended Clay Works School and Bruno Minnesota schools before graduating from Otho High School in 1948. Evelyn worked at Johnston Clay Works while attending high school. She was united in marriage to Clyde Nelson on June 8, 1948 in Fort Dodge. They resided in Border Plains for 12 years and then moved to Coalville in 1962. Evelyn worked at the old Marian Home as a cook, a laundress at Friendship Haven for 12 years and also promoted the 1st Iowa Lotto Games. She also worked at Larita's Cakes and More as a baker for ten years. Evelyn loved God, her family, friends, dogs, birds, butterflies, teddy bears, flowers, gardening, Johnston Clay Works, and traveling.
