MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — A Marshalltown man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter.
The Marshalltown Police Department says the charge against Branden Collins was added following Jossilyn Starn's death Friday. Court records do not list an attorney.
Authorities say Collins was watching Jossilyn and two other children when then girl became unresponsive Wednesday and was taken to the hospital. The Polk County medical examiners' office says she died as a result of head injuries.
Collins was arrested Thursday on charges of child endangerment, marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on the latest charges Saturday. He remains at the Marshall County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
