HUMBOLDT - Behind a career-high 34 points from Jaxon Heinz, the Humboldt boys narrowly escaped with a 76-70 double overtime victory over St. Edmond Tuesday night.

Down by three at the end of regulation, the junior Heinz dribbled the length of the court and drained a clutch 3-pointer to send the game into an extra session. After both teams recorded 10 points in the first OT, the Wildcats (11-3 overall, 10-3 in the North Central Conference) outscored the Gaels 16-10 the rest of the way.

"This was definitely a big win for us," said HHS head coach Jake Mohling.

Brady Ross chipped in 11 points for Humboldt, which avenged an earlier 60-58 setback to the Gaels. Jack Curran and Austin Zylstra each added eight for the home team.

The Wildcats, who finished 17 of 20 from the free throw line, rallied from a seven point deficit entering the fourth quarter. With the win, Humboldt has now prevailed in three straight and four of its past four games.

For St. Edmond (12-3, 11-3), seniors Robby Burke (27) and Konrad Laufersweiler (17) and junior Matthew Bocken (12) all reached double figures in scoring. The Gaels had their mini two-game winning streak snapped in the loss.
