MASON CITY - The second-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) North Iowa Area women took a 94-87 decision from No. 10 Iowa Central in an ICCAC showdown here Saturday.
The Tritons (17-3 overall, 6-2 in the league) trimmed a 22-point deficit to five in the closing minutes, but the Trojans (19-2, 8-0) hung on to remain unbeaten in the conference.
''We just couldn't quite get over the hump (during the rally),'' ICCC head coach Craig Carlson said. ''We turned the ball over too much (22 times) and only made half of our free throws (13 of 26).
''I'm proud of the effort, though. We never gave up even though we had an off shooting night. For some reason, we've had issues with starting slow in games, and it cost us here.''
Miliakere Koyamainavure scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Tritons, while St. Edmond graduate Lydia Harvey (19 points) and Katie Dentlinger (17) followed. Theresa Doyle (St. Edmond) added 12.
Harvey pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.
