WAVERLY - The Fort Dodge wrestling team placed third here Saturday at the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawk Duals.
Waverly-Shell Rock finished first overall, while Cedar Rapids Prairie was the runner-up. The Dodgers went 3-2 on the day.
Freshman Triston Lara, junior Erik Birnbaum and sophomore Sam Cook all put together 5-0 records, while sophomore Jonah Egli went 4-1 for Fort Dodge (7-6 overall).
Sophomore Cole Detmering, senior Kole Evans and senior Riley Prescott each went 3-2, while sophomore Keenan Cook and junior Logan Kipfmiller won two matches each.
''I thought we fared pretty well overall,'' FDSH head coach Bobby Thompson said. ''We lost to two highly-ranked teams in Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Rapids Prairie. Our kids are really becoming battle-tested, which will help once districts and state arrive.''
The Dodgers won all three of their pool duals, downing Waterloo East (62-12), Waterloo West (44-19) and North Fayette (42-36).
That pushed Fort Dodge into the gold division with the Go-Hawks and Prairie, two of the top teams in Class 3A. The Dodgers lost to W-SR, 51-18, and Prairie, 57-12.
Waverly-Shell Rock defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie in the championship match, 37-28.
Fort Dodge returns to action Friday at the CIC Invitational.
