WAVERLY - Competing for the first time in a week, the Fort Dodge wrestling team will be put to the test today in the Go-Hawk Duals.

Action begins at 10 a.m. Joining the Dodgers in the field are No. 4 (Class 3A) Cedar Rapids Prairie, Des Moines East, Estherville-Lincoln Central, North Fayette, sixth-ranked (3A) Pleasant Valley, Starmont, Waterloo East, Waterloo West, Waukee and No. 2 (3A) Waverly-Shell Rock.

FDSH (4-4 overall) will square off against Waterloo East, Waterloo West and North Fayette in the Pool A preliminary round, which will run until approximately 1:30 p.m.

"We're obviously not the greatest dual team, but even with giving up 18 points due to three open weights, I think we can still win our preliminaries," Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson said. "I'd like to wrestle Waverly before districts (FDSH will host a 3A district meet on Feb. 15). It all depends, though, on how we do early on."

Fourth-ranked (3A) freshman Triston Lara (106 pounds), No. 8 junior Erik Birnbaum (113) and fifth-ranked sophomore Sam Cook (182) headline the Dodger lineup. Lara (28-2), Birnbaum (25-4), 120-pound sophomore Cole Detmering (21-12), 152-pound sophomore Jonah Egli (23-5), Cook (24-5) and 195-pound senior Riley Prescott (24-8) have each surpassed 20 wins this season for FDSH.

Last Saturday at the J-Hawk Invitational in Cedar Rapids, the Dodgers finished eighth with 102.5 points. Lara and Prescott both captured individual silver medals, while Birnbaum and Cook took home bronze. Detmering added a sixth-place effort.
