ALGONA - Pushing their winning streak to four straight games, the fifth-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond girls downed Algona by a 64-54 final Friday night.
Despite seeing a double digit lead trimmed to just five midway through the fourth quarter, the Gaels (14-1 overall, 13-1 in the North Central Conference) connected on several late free throws to fend off any Bulldog upset hopes.
SEHS finished 17 of 21 from the charity stripe in the contest.
"We actually made about 12 straight free throws at one point down the stretch," said Gael head coach Scott Messerly. "It was just another pretty good all-around team game (last night)."
Alli Huss, a senior, posted her 11th double-double of the season for the Gaels with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Anna Yung also tallied 21 points and 10 boards, while classmate Jaci Stumpf added 17 points and eight assists.
"Our big three of Jaci, Anna and Alli really stepped up again," Messerly said. "We took pretty good care of the ball, and in the second half we didn't hardly foul at all."

"Seely hit three big threes in a row after being 2-for-6 on the whole year coming in," said Messerly. "Now, we have to get ready for a big week and see if we can't get at least a share of the conference title."
